Clear fees, explained before you decide.

The initial eligibility check is free. If you ask Money Back Hero to handle a claim, we charge only when that claim produces financial redress. Any agreement provided before you instruct us will explain the applicable rate and terms.

Couple reviewing a fee summary showing a free eligibility check and a capped success fee.

When fees apply

  1. Check for free

Completing the initial eligibility journey and securely identifying possible lenders from connected account information are free.

  2. Decide whether to continue

Reviewing the lenders found and deciding whether to continue are free. Any agreement will explain the applicable rate and terms.

  3. Fee only if financial redress is obtained

A success fee applies only when a claim produces financial redress.

How the success fee works

  • If a claim succeeds and financial redress is awarded, a success fee applies. The amount is calculated from the redress awarded for that claim and is subject to the FCA fee cap.
  • There is nothing to pay as a success fee if no financial redress is obtained.
  • Your agreement will explain the applicable charge before you instruct us.

Maximum FCA fee-cap bands

FCA maximum fee-cap bands, showing charges excluding and including VAT
Redress awarded Maximum charge excluding VAT Maximum charge including VAT
£1–£1,499 Lower of 30% or £420 Lower of 36% or £504
£1,500–£9,999 Lower of 28% or £2,500 Lower of 33.6% or £3,000
£10,000–£24,999 Lower of 25% or £5,000 Lower of 30% or £6,000
£25,000–£49,999 Lower of 20% or £7,500 Lower of 24% or £9,000
£50,000 or more Lower of 15% or £10,000 Lower of 18% or £12,000

Important: Compliance must confirm the firm's commercial charging rate. Until confirmed, the table below shows only the maximum permitted FCA cap, not a promise that the firm will always charge the maximum. The applicable cap is the lower of the percentage and cash maximum. VAT-inclusive figures assume VAT at 20%.

A simple illustration

£1,000 redress

On £1,000 redress, the maximum fee including VAT is £360, leaving £640 before any set-off by the lender.

This example demonstrates the FCA maximum cap, not an estimate of likely compensation or necessarily the firm's final commercial fee.

You can complain for free

You do not need to use Money Back Hero or another claims management company. You can complain directly to the lender without paying a fee and may obtain free guidance from MoneyHelper. If the lender does not resolve the complaint, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to help for free.
